More Precious than Gold

The former Dean Martin Golddiggers – “Golden Memories”

When my “Golddigger sister” Patti Gribow asked me to do a fund-raiser to promote women’s education in Palm Desert, I anxiously packed my beaded dress to join my fellow Former Golddiggers. My anticipation was high! It’s always fun to reminisce about our performances with Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and catch up with the girls.

Dean would affectionately call us, “my girls” and we became like family. Looking back, we were blessed to share each others lives and perform with the legends of show business. Many of us learned charm from Dean Martin, comedy and timing from Bob Hope, Milton Berle, Joan Rivers and Dom DeLuise, showmanship from Wayne Newton and Donald O’Conner, dance from Gene Kelly and vocal expertise from Frank Sinatra, Louis Prima, Jerry Vale and many more. We found gold by learning from these Masters and sharing our friendships but shining more than gold are the philanthropic services shared by our group and made as individuals.

Our host, Patti Gribow has served as a volunteer for numerous non-profits in Los Angeles and the Coachella Valley. Currently she is a member of the Board of Councilors of USC School of Theater, Chairperson of the President’s Circle of Women Leaders Forum and Vice President of Palm Springs Women in Film. Patti has been honored to win numerous awards for her enthusiastic service. She is also a successful TV host and producer. Thank you for your vision, love and energy in putting this reunion event together.

Presently, Linda Eichberg is a certified fitness instructor. She continues singing and dancing in a variety of venues as a soloist and with me, her sister. Performing as the Alberici Sisters, we had the honor of doing a command performance for the Royal Family and opening for stars like Jay Leno, Bobby Vinton and Norm Crosby. As a soloist, Linda recently performed in South Africa where she pursued her passion, helping raise awareness for children affected by HIV/AIDS.

Joyce Garro has twice sung the national anthem at Wrigley Field, recorded TV and radio commercials and CD’s including her original songs. Joyce continues to work today as a singer, musician, actor and enjoys extending her performing talents to various charities.

Robyn Whatley-Kahn has woven her love of singing and healing into writing an acclaimed lullaby CD Skye’s Lullabies- Dreamland, and doing a one woman concert that brought in over $80,000 for Hospice Care.;

Linda Snook-Bott performed internationally. Now, Linda and her husband Carl are very involved with Veterans and various charitable fundraising efforts in northern California. They have a daily two-hour radio show called Free Fire Radio (KCNR 1460)

Marie Halton-Peck began her career in theater before working with Perry Como in The Establishment. Today, she is back in school, finishing up a degree in Interior Design and working in that industry. She graduates in May 2010!

A shout out to some of my dear friends and Former Golddiggers, who were not able to attend … Susan Buckner went on to co-star with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the movie Broadway classic, Grease. Deborah Pratt became an award-winning writer and director. Her science fiction book triad, “Vision Quest” is a must-read: . Robin Hoctor became the assistant choreographer for Gene Kelly. Wendy Kimbal starred on Broadway, she still sings and is an animal activist. Peggy Gohl still performs from coast to coast at venues like Radio City Music Hall with her special brand of humor and vocals. Lee Nolting and Colleen Kincaid are individually teaching youth skills that inspire and empower. Darlene (Alberici) Cianci is teaching Yoga and Tai Chi. Most of my dear ‘Golddigger Sisters’ are still singing and that includes Theresa Bishop and Patty Booth.

Speaking for myself, within the span of 25 years, I have been hosting and producing healthy living TV Specials and youth performances with a positive theme called, You Got The Power. The after-school programs celebrate cultural diversity receiving recognition by the city of Los Angeles. Currently, I find satisfaction working as a Lifestyle Educator at Kaiser Permanente where I help patients and employees achieve a better quality of life and ‘Thrive.”  Also, through the years, I enjoy performing with some of the Former Dean Martin Golddiggers in “Showstoppers.” The warm applause and the standing ovations of our audiences is always a thrill to share!

It’s fun to remember the ‘good old days’ but our journey continues as we extend our talents to serve and that is more precious than gold.

With much love and a grateful heart,

Maria Lauren (aka) Maria Elena Alberici – Riccio

  1. Thanks for the memories, updates, and wonderful things you all have been doing.
Hats off to you ladies making a difference.
    God Bless
    An Admirer and fan

  2. It is so interesting how everyone has found their niche in the “post Golddigger” years. Entertainment is a reciprocal endeavor and you are all continuing that in some way by using your gifts. Of note to me as a young girl who watched your shows was the incredible enthusiasm that you had for each performance. Your enthusiasm for others hasn’t diminshed.

  3. It was a wonderful evening. Patti facilitated a spectacular interview! I am so proud of all of you and the woman you have become. With God’s blessings may you continue to abundantly use your talents for good. Love, Linda

    • I think we all can agree that Patti is the hostess with the mostess, both on stage and off stage! Special props for the dinner that she served the night before … it was delicious and so lovely. The only problem … someone kept filling my wine glass … it was good wine! 🙂
Love to all my Golddigger sisters xox

    • Mishi, it was so good to hear from you. As you can see from my Blog, I’m keeping busy.

I hope you’re feeling well and celebrating the miracle of life that is inside you. Motherhood is the best! It will test your strength but bringing a life into the world is most precious.

      Many Blessings,
