Preparing for Mother’s Day: Growing in Love

“Unconditional Love” Marianna Riccio and Maria Lauren

Okay, I admit it! There is still an umbilical cord that connects my daughter, to me. Is there something wrong with that? Call it a sixth sense or just call it a mother’s love, it is a strong bond that cannot be severed. We are alike but not alike, two separate individuals but an extension of each other.

Getting in the mood for Mother’s Day has me thinking of my own mom too. She is the mother of nine children, seven of us, who are women. To a certain degree, some of us have our mom’s expressions, personality, warm heart, talent, creativity, energy, sense of fairness, sense of humor, common sense, work ethics and moods. Thanks mom.

World Fitness Day

As mothers we want our children to be healthy and “Thrive.” My parents, Lillian and Albert Alberici were early advocates of all their children eating natural foods and exercising. Now, my “Comfort Foods” are “Health Foods” and exercise is a part of my lifestyle. My sisters and brothers have extended their well-being practices to their children and continue to be examples of healthy living even in their own business endeavors, some being certified fitness instructors and dietitians.

I enjoy working as a Lifestyle Educator at Kaiser Permanente, where I bring the message of fitness to our members and employees. Recently, Kaiser Permanente representatives joined Michelle Obama to promote community Health Initiatives for Healthy Living and Childhood Obesity. Mrs. Obama recognized what Kaiser Permanente is doing to promote good nutrition, prevention and active living through public health interventions, policy change, organizational practices and the community conditions that influence health. Go team!

Earth Day

Please continue to celebrate Earth Day all year-long. Kaiser Permanente is doing their part and received the Clean Air Award by a California environmental group winning the 2010 award by Breathe California. Children have interesting ideas about preserving their home, the Earth. See what they have to say on my past TV series, You Got The Power.

  1. Hi Family,
This was in my church (Catholic) bulletin on Sunday, thought it was nice, pass the message along to Mom.
The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any Cathedral – a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body. The Angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to heaven. Only a human mother can. Mother’s are closer to God, the Creator than any other creature. God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation. What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this: to be a mother.

  2. I love the idea of giving the “spiritual bouquet”, for Mothers Day, praying for 30 days about the legacy God has given to our family through our mother. Beautiful … Mom has commented to me several times about how grateful she is for the supernatural grace God has given her children. I love you mom.
To mothers everywhere, if you are a mother, you are special. Happy Mothers Day! xoxo, Linda

  3. Mommy, yes, the umbilical cord still connects: thats why you can always tell when I’m upset..lol. However, the gift of being a mother is so selfless and loving, and you’ve been the definition of a great mother in the 24 years I’ve known you, always ready to help and comfort me in anything!! Love you mucho! Agape

  4. Work is Love made visible- Kahlil Gibran

Nowhere in life is this quote more appropriate than when it refers to the endless investment Mothers make in their children. Nothing will make you as proud or as tired as being a good mother. No matter what we have accomplished, Mothers are angels here on earth and as you two so aptly put it- “Growing in Love” is Gods greatest gift to our lives. Beautifully done!

  5. Alane, I have to share your Mother’s Day request to your sons, to give you a “spiritual bouquet” … praying for 30 days straight-on bended knee- giving thanks, talking to God about their life and their family.
Our Mom is also a part of our family bouquet and I’ll be joining you, praying for mom and her legacy of nine children and … (How many grandchildren??)
    Happy Mother’s Day! xox
