Dance Party!

Put on some music that inspires and start dancing. It’s therapeutic! Have fun shaking away all tension and those extra holiday calories.

A Dance Party is a social gathering of people moving in lively, rhythmic steps together. The music helps to make this happen! Research shows that high-groove music engages the motor system of the body. – Research Group at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and the Brain Sciences, Leipzig, Germany.

A song that is sure to put you in the mood is The “Party Rock Anthem” an electronic dance music song by LMFAO, an American duo. The party song soared to the #1 spot in the United States and other countries around the world. LMFAO, Redfoo and Skyblu host the biggest and best parties on the scene today.

During the recent film, “Last Vegas”, LMFAO added their antics at a Las Vegas pool party with Academy Award winning actors Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline. I loved this feel-good comedy about friendship, loyalty and sharing good times together. It made me laugh with tears in my eyes.

Dance Exercise Party!

I enjoy teaching Dance Exercise at Kaiser Permanente. After one of my classes, a lady wiped her brow and exclaimed, “That was what I needed! When I’m dancing, I’m not thinking of what I have to do, my kids, my problems; it’s an hour of de-stressing and de-compressing!”

Dancing is a fun way to burn fat and activate the soothing brain chemicals serotonin and dopamine. Fifteen minutes of aerobic activity such as dancing or walking, two to three times a week can release stress. As well as preventing inflammation around your heart and increase “good” cholesterol. – 2007 study published in the Journal of Internal Medicine

So, get your groove on, do some Latin dancing, Zumba, Swing dancing or Square dancing. I like exercising with a weighted hula hoop; it’s like doing ” The Twist!”

I recently ‘turned it up’ at a Reunion for the Dean Martin Show and The Golddiggers of which I was a performer:

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique.” – Martha Graham

Express yourself and dance!
