Dance to the Music of Grace

Life may have you dancing to an assortment of music and rhythms. I’m a fan of variety but in abundance, it can get confusing and overwhelming. Sometimes, I find myself bouncing off the walls because I’m moving too fast or half awake. Ouch!

My dance training reminds me that spinning and balancing needs a spot of focus. I’m happy to say, I’ve found my focus spot but more about that later.

Now, speaking of dancing news…

PDS 30th Annual Gypsy Awards – Carol Channing – Lee Hale – The Golddiggers – Alberici Sisters

I recently had the pleasure of doing a little song and dance with some of my fellow performers from The Golddiggers of The Dean Martin TV  Show at the PDS 30th Annual Gypsy Awards in Beverly Hills. It was heart warming to celebrate our Producer/Editor/Musical Director, Lee Hale, as he received a prestigious award for his contribution to the entertainment industry. Also honored were Carol Channing, Mandy Moore, choreographer of the movie, “La La Land,” with featured appearances from Dick Van Dyke, Lily Tomlin, Joe Tremaine, Nigel Lithgoe and many more. I must say it was a wonderful show and a gratifying experience to share this event with my sister, Linda Alberici – Eichberg and our “Golddigger Sisters.”

Now, back to my focus spot…

When life has me going in multiple directions, that’s a cue for me to pause and pray, ‘Dear Lord, let me hear Your music, steady me in grace as I focus on You.’

“My grace is sufficient for you.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Marc Anthony’s performance gives a Rat Pack vibe at the Nokia!

Marc_ Anthony

Marc Anthony

Marc Anthony is a sensational performer in any language.

A sold-out audience of 7,100 beheld the king of salsa, Marc Anthony at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los  Angeles during his “Vivir Mi Vida” 2013 World tour. His fans were mostly Latinos and made up of all ages. Everyone was singing along and on their feet while grooving to the rhythms of the music. By the end of the night my feet were throbbing to the beat in my stilettos’ but I didn’t care. The music was intoxicating being played by exceptional musicians and the production was top-notch.

Frank Sinatra

Not only is Marc Anthony a seasoned performer but he has one of the best male voices today. His entertaining is equipped with the swag, playfulness and sophistication that was once owned by the Rat Pack.

Dean Martin

My first impression of Marc Anthony’s style was that of a young Frank Sinatra but as the evening went on, he took a drink from an audience member and made a toast just like Dean Martin would do in his shows. Being blessed to have performed on tour with Frank and Dean, I am not too easily impressed by entertainers but Marc Anthony has my respect. He knows how to cast a spell and command the audience.

News Highlights: 2013 Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre

The Nokia Theatre was the home of the 2013 Emmy Awards. This year, I cheered as stand-up comedian and actor, Bob Newhart received his first Emmy for his guest role on the CBS sit-com, “The Big Bang Theory.”

Mr. Newhart will be returning to the sit-com in a November episode and will be joined by Bill Nye, The Science Guy. Mr. Nye’s past TV series made science fun for my daughter and others who are now in their 20’s. He made dancing fun too, when hecompeted on this years episode of “Dancing with the Stars.”

One can only imagine the antics Nye and Newhart will muster-up on the up-coming episode of “The Big Bang Theory.”

Bob Newhart & the cast of the “Big Bang Theory”

I fondly remember Bob Newhart as a familiar television personality during the 70’s. “The Bob Newhart Show” was shot at NBC studios and so was the “Dean Martin Comedy Hour” of which I was a regular performer. Bob Newhart would often add his comedic flavor to skits and the Roasts and in between shooting I felt comfortable to strike up a conversation with him. For a celebrity, he had a humble demeanor, warm and personable like an uncle.

Mr. Newhart’s comedy style was that of a deadpan straight man in the Jack Benny tradition but Bob Newhart did it with a little stammer in his speech and an endearing delivery. His understated talent has endured show business for decades so it was wonderful to watch a new generation see Bob Newhart accept his long-awaited and well deserved Emmy Award.

Each year, the Emmy’s give a solemn memorial to entertainment veterans who have passed on. A reflective tribute that honored the talents of Jonathan Winters was made by Robin Williams, who now stars in the sitcom, “The Crazy Ones.” It was apparent that Robin had a deep admiration for Jonathan Winters  and his comedic genius.

Talk about genius… Watch how Jonathan Winters creates improvisations with a stick!

It was a pleasure for my sister Linda Eichberg and I (Alberici Sisters) to be regular performers on the TV series, “The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters.” During that time we were members of the singing and dancing troupe The Dean Martin Golddiggers. A few months ago, we dedicated a blog post to this very clever and talented comedian. Enjoy The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters with excerpts from our book, Beyond Our Wildest Dreams.

Yours truly in entertainment,

“Beyond Our Wildest Dreams” is a book about some of the entertainment icons of the 20th Century including the “real” Rat Pack, Bob Newhart, Jonathan Winters and many more written by my sister and I, the Alberici Sisters, with backstage stories from those who were there with us. It’s still a thrill for us to sing, entertain and motivate audiences.
